Overview

What is Lambda Phi Epsilon

Lambda Phi Epsilon is the largest and only nationally recognized Asian American interest fraternity. Founded in 1981 at the University of California at Los Angeles, Lambda Phi Epsilon seeks to promote Asian American awareness and is uniquely tailored to the Asian American experience. With 46 Chapters across the nation and Canada, including Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, University of Toronto, Lambda Phi Epsilon is still rapidly growing.

Traditional Asian campus organizations often split along lines of national orgins and often lack continuity in the memberships in those organizations with yearly turnover of officers and members. Student associations provide a circle of friends during your undergradate study and at worst, familiar strangers during periodic social functions. Lambda Phi Epsilon is an organization that is rich in tradition, values , and vision and seeks to enrich the male college student experience. We offer brotherhood that will endure the passage of time. We perform community service, get involved in the Asian American community, cultivate meaningful and lasting relationships, and look out for all of our brothers across the country, all while maintaining high academic standards. We study hard; we work hard; we play hard.

Brotherhood

By joining, you will enter a brotherhood that offers friendships that last a lifetime. Unlike many college friends who turn out to be "class friends" or "semester friends," Lambda Phi Epsilon offers brotherhood that values trust and loyalty to the highest. Our brotherhood is expressed in our motto, "To Be Leaders Among Men." We not only seek to bring together a diverse group of men who share interests, concerns, backgrounds, and cultures, but who believe that the strength of many is forged into the power of being one. If you ever had a best friend, you know the closeness you feel with them. The fraternity offers the opportunity to feel that way with numerous people.

Community Involvment

Community involvlement is very important to Lambda Phi Epsilon. As brothers, we stess service and drive ourselves to achieve high standards of excellence in philanthropic service. We partake in cleaning our portion of Route 13 for Adopt-a-Highway. We also volunteer at local retirement homes and high schools, as well as actively promoting our national service project - the Asian-American Bone Marrow Drive.

National Connections

Lambda Phi Epsilon is an internationally chartered fraternity. As such, you will have brothers and connections in states across the US and even in Canada. If you ever visit any of the areas in which there is a chapter, you will always have a place to stay and people to show you around. Moreover, Lambda Phi Epsilon hosts an annual national convention with over 500 brothers and 20 sorority chapters present for a weekend of partying and celebration.

As you can see, Lambdas here at Cornell foster leadership, scholarship, philanthropy, and the development of personal excellence. Get acquainted with us, and come out to our events!

Myths and Misconceptions

1. All 'frat boys' do is drink and party.
Not true - while many party hard, that's hardly all we do. Many Cornell brothers are in rigorous academic programs and quite a few are highly involved in intramural sports, cultural organizations, and musical groups, all in addition to our community service work and brotherhood events.

2. A fraternity is just a bunch of guys that pay for their friends
While actives are required to pay dues, they are not for the privilege of being friends with a group of people. All social organizations require dues to fund social events. These funds are required to allow us to sponsor such functions for the members' benefit.

3. Lambdas are exclusive.
No. If you see a bunch of Lambdas hanging out together all the time, it's not because we're exclusive. It's because we enjoy each other's company, hold many common interests, and share the bonds of brotherhood. We do not shun non-brothers or people of different descent, nor do we belittle Asian-Americans who have non-Asian friends. Lambda Phi Epsilon has brothers of all ethnicities, including those of Caucasian, African-American, Indian, and Asian origin. You do not have to be Asian to come to events and you do not have to be Asian to join Lambda Phi Epsilon. Everyone is invited!
